Hey friends of Connie!

I’m so excited to be meeting you guys on her lovely blog which I know you guys adore. I’m so honoured and flattered that Connie has given me this opportunity to meet all her lovely readers and talk about something that I love with all of my heart. Before we go into that, I thought I’d give you guys some sort of introduction to who I am! I’m Cheryl, yes hello. I’m a Singaporean currently based in Manchester. I’m a beauty junkie and I love all things beauty and skincare related! I blog about all things beauty (as you have probably guessed), travel and lifestyle! I have a great love for dogs and tea and please feel free to reach out if you’d like to say hi!

Alrighty, now that is out of the way, today I’m going to be sharing with you guys about my skincare routine. I have different routines for mornings and nights because they serve very different purposes and do very different things even though they feature products that are mostly similar. And today I thought I’d write all about my night-time skincare routine because it’s definitely my favourite (shhhh). Skincare routines are very personal and they should not only be tailored to your skin types, it should also fit your schedule and personality as best as it can.

For many, the process simply keeps your skin moisturised and prepared but for me, it is more than that. I’m currently juggling a couple of things ranging from studies to a job and some other things here and there, and more often than not, it does get a little overwhelming. I personally struggle with a bit of anxiety and I’m not going to go in-depth but it has affected me in more ways than one and I try as much as I can to keep it at bay so I can carry on with my daily life. And I’m not going to lie to you, some days are harder than the others. I know it may sound silly to some but having a skincare routine to me is like having an anchor in my life. It is a very personal process that only I am able to “take part in” and I’m a structure-freak so I stick to the routine as strictly as I can.

My routine usually takes place an hour or two before bed time and I do it because it helps me calm down, wind down from the day and just be at ease. Because the routine can take up to 20 minutes on some days, it is time set aside for me to relax and take a breather. You know that feeling where you go out on a full day of shopping and your bags just get heavier and heavier and then your arms just somehow start to ache and you almost struggle to walk? And then you finally reach home and put your shopping bags down, kick off your shoes and let out a massive sigh of relief? Well yes, that’s how my night-time skincare routine makes me feel. Okay, I feel like I’ve rambled on a lot and so let’s jump into the process!

I have 3 steps that I follow closely being Cleanse & Tone, Prepare and Moisturise!

Cleanse & Tone

I know this is going to sound rather extra but I have three different products that I use toProcessed with VSCO with hb2 preset cleanse and tone my skin! The first one is this grapefruit cleansing pads which I got when I went back home in Summer. Before using this I was alternating between the CORSX cleansing pads and the Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Pads and they all work just fine. The reason I use these cleansing pads is because they are soaked in Salicylic Acid amongst other ingredients and it helps exfoliate and cleanse your skin. This is super important to me because I wear make up and sunscreen every single day and they do leave residues and can cause clogs in your pores if you don’t remove them properly. I then move onto toning my skin with my Mamonde Rose Water Toner followed by The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution and let dry before further prepping my skin!

Prepare.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 presetHonestly, I don’t know what to call this step but basically I apply one or two toners depending on the condition of my skin. As of the last six months or so, I’ve been using the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex. Because I’ve turned 24 and I can see myself becoming older (cries), I try to protect my skin as much as I can. Also, it is never to young to start using anti-ageing skincare because if you’re out and about all the time, your skin will get exposed to all sorts. I apply a small amount on my palm and massage it into my skin until it no longer feels tacky.

Moisturise.

This is probably the most important step because it not only seals in all the products you’ve previously applied, it also keeps your skin hydrated so it can look healthy and vibrant! I’ve been trying out all sorts of moisturisers the last few months because the weather change has called for a lighter one! I’m currently using the Avene Hydrance Optimale Light with a drop or two of Sukin Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil.

I mix them both together on my palms and massage my face until the products have been absorbed. On its own, the Avene cream is hydrating enough but because it is the night time, I want to give my skin that extra boost of nutrients and oils are an amazing seal to keep your face hydrated!

On days where I have a couple of minutes to spare, I’ll put on a sheet mask in between step 1 and 2 and just relax with an episode of friends (my favourite is definitely The One With Unagi) and it just gives my face that extra something something.

As you probably can tell, I take my skin very seriously because I’m prone to breakouts when I’m stressed and the last six months has been fuelled by stress so my skin hasn’t been enjoying this lifestyle which is why I give it as much as love as I can. If you’re looking to start a skincare routine, start with the essentials and work your way up. Don’t forget to tailor it to your skin and make sure you stick to it because your skin and your mental health will thank you because trust me, a good skin day typically makes a pretty good day as a whole so why not? If you’re not big into your skincare, find something that you can make into a daily habit like journaling, reading or even something as simple as writing down a sentence or two at the end of your day to help you wind down and mark the end of it.

Well then, I hope that you’ve enjoyed this blog post and please don’t forget to send Connie some love! If you like to find out more about skincare and make up, head over to my blog and read all about it! I’ll see you lovely lot soon!
